OBJECTIVES:
To introduce amputees to a variety of sports over the course of a weekend with hopes that each individual will find a sport that they would like to continue playing

To introduce amputees to related activities which focus on fitness and nutrition that can become habits in their everyday lives

To offer instruction and encouragement in each sport by a team of volunteers, many of whom are certified teaching professionals, or have participated in a sport at an intercollegiate or professional level

To build confidence and self esteem by tapping into each person's abilities through their involvement in athletic activities

To identify individuals who possess superior athletic abilities and direct them to more specialized training once the camp has concluded

STRUCTURE:

The event will take place over the course of a weekend.  Attendees will participate in their favorite sports, be introduced to new sports and receive training and instruction in sports, fitness, and nutrition. The programs will be designed to take into account experience and skill levels, knowing that each attendee may be at different stages in their lives as amputees and have different levels of athletic involvement.

The primary goal is to perform a rehabilitative function for amputees, focusing on abilities versus limitations, tapping into their God given skills and instilling in each person confidence that will help them lead a fulfilling life. For those individuals who exhibit outstanding athletic ability, the camp will provide accelerated training and instruction, serving as a catalyst to prepare them for more advanced levels of competition.

Each day of camp will be structured to incorporate the key components of athletic training, supported by coaching and instruction. After an initial evaluation of skill levels, attendees will be placed in groups according to abilities. This will enable programs to be adapted to the level of each group.

The quality of each session will be paramount to volume of activities. From the facility to the equipment to the instruction, we want the participants to have a 1st class experience in every activity.  The camp experience, although introductory in nature, will be a key role in developing the attendee’s interest level in  sports beyond the camp.

Each session will put a premium on wellness, with goals of improving fitness and minimizing the risk of injury. Thus, a presentation/demonstration will be given on proper stretching and other preparations that will be helpful before participating in sports.
