ASTTER is a newly-formed organization spear-headed by David Valenti with the objective to offer amputees the opportunity to participate in athletics in an environment which instills self confidence, promotes personal goal achievement, and teaches fundamental of teamwork. ASTTER has a board of directors and is an approved 501(3)(c) organization. For information on supporting ASTTER please view our Support page.

Initially our objectives are:

  • To introduce amputees to a variety of sports over the course of a weekend with hopes that each individual will find a sport that they would like to continue playing.
  • To introduce amputees to related activities which focus on fitness and nutrition that can become habits in their everyday lives.
  • To offer instruction and encouragement in each sport by the team of volunteers, many of whom are certified teaching professionals, or have participated in a sport at an intercollegiate or professional level.
  • To build confidence and self esteem by tapping into each person’s abilities through their involvement in athletic activities.
  • To build a sustainable program that can be offered 2+ times per year, and depending on the impact, can expand beyond Southeast Texas.
  • To identify individuals who possess superior athletic abilities and direct them to more specialized training once the camp has concluded.
